LEE-ROY ZOZO

A Celebration of Black British Art | 2024

In celebration of Black History Month, Willkie’s London office was transformed into an immersive art gallery, bringing together creativity, culture, and conversation. Five exceptional Black British artists—Alesha Pryce, Lee-Roy Zozo, Lesley Asare, Levi Naidu-Mitchell, and Melanie Issaka—came together to showcase their work in a powerful exhibition that honored the richness of Black British artistry and identity.

Guests were invited to experience the event through multiple layers of engagement:

– Immersing in Art: Guided by BBA curator Brian Maina, visitors explored the vibrant and thought-provoking pieces that filled the space, each telling unique stories and perspectives.

– Engaging with Artists: During a dynamic panel discussion and Q&A session, the artists shared insights into their creative processes, inspirations, and the evolving narratives that shape their work.

– Witnessing Live Performance: The talented Lesley Asare captivated the audience with a moving live performance that added another dimension to the exploration of identity and expression.

 – Food and drinks: The chef from west Africa had prepared a fine selection of nibbles and refreshing drinks such as traditional Bissap beverages, that took our palets on an amazing cultural tour. Experiencing a culture in a multiple of senses.

This year’s exhibition theme, “Fluidity in Plurality, the ever-evolving tapestry of identity,” celebrated the beauty of diversity within the Black British experience. It highlighted the interconnected and dynamic nature of identity, how it shifts, grows, and embraces a multitude of influences and histories.

Through art, dialogue, and performance, the event created a space for reflection, connection, and celebration of the power of Black voices and creativity. It was a moment to honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future.
